This information will be used for a fleet of ships to make better decisions and help guarantee the status of the cargo and maritime safety on the routes. Among the services, we highlight the monitoring and tracking of refrigerated containers, the transmission of geolocation data from Global Positioning System (GPS), and security through Automatic Identification System (AIS). To do this, a communications system is designed on the deck of ships to transmit data through a constellation of satellites using interconnected smart devices based on IoT. In order to improve the economy and people's lives, in this work, we propose to enhance services offered in maritime logistics. In addition, the future goes through the role of ports and efficiency in maritime transport, to decarbonize its impact on the environment. In turn, during the last two years, we have observed that the increase of consumer goods has resulted in global shipping deadlocks. Maritime transport has become very important due to its ability to internationally unite all continents. The findings and discussions aim at highlighting the research trends in our chosen scope of study. By the bias of a systematic review, this study tried to map the correlation between the use of the internet of things technologies and the sustainability of supply chains. A total of 58 papers have been reviewed and categorized in order to identify the evolution of research developments in the field of sustainable supply chain. However, few works have systematically reviewed how the technologies, and in particular the internet of things, impact the sustainability of the supply chains. In this context, researchers and practitioners have showed extensive interest in the impact of shifting to a data-driven supply chain operations. Many industry 4.0 technologies have proven their potential in improving organizations' performance. Committing to more sustainable practices became imperative in all sectors, and particularly in the complex supply chain field.
Sustainability is at the heart of the world's concerns and has become a major challenge in this industrialized era. Including safety enhancements, route planning and optimization, collaborative decision making, automatic fault detection and preemptive maintenance, cargo tracking, environmental monitoring, energy-efficient operations, and automatic berthing.įinally, the presented open challenges and future opportunities for research in the areas of satellite communications, security, privacy, maritime data collection, data management, and analytics, provide a road-map towards optimized maritime operations and autonomous shipping. IoS is a novel application domain of IoT that refers to the network of smart interconnected maritime objects, which can be any physical device or infrastructure associated with a ship, a port, or the transportation itself, with the goal of significantly boosting the shipping industry towards improved safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
